Summary

I have been researching about how blockbuster is inching its way towards bankruptcy. The reason I am writing about blockbuster is because I have hade an outrageous late fee for not getting my movie in before ten o’clock AM, the fee paid was six dollars. Blockbuster has 7,500 stores, but is having a problem to compete with online DVD rentals like netflix. As new ideas are inspired by netflix and other companies blockbuster can only compete with these online companies by offering one dollar nightly rentals. Blockbuster wants to be "highly profitable" and have a "growing bass", seems like its not going to be happening. Blockbuster says its profitable, with 1.6 million Total Access subscribers. Blockbuster plans to close within 810 and 960 stores before the end of the year. The road is going to be getting rougher for blockbuster, with the laziness among the future, mailing is going to be the future. One of the biggest video stores known to almost everybody is going to be facing a crisis.

Connection

This case relates to “The Evolution of Retailing in Canada .’’ As people face problems like visiting the video store they find easier ways to do it. Something more advanced and new like renting through the mail. There is a evolution happening that blockbuster can’t compete with. This also relates to“ Use of Technology.’’ New technology is changing the way how customers shop, using something easier like online rentals. New technology is wiping out the old technology. Another case its related to is“ How to Avoid Business Failure’’, some businesses are forced to close there doors for reasons beyond the owners control. This is similar to blockbuster because more doors closed and new businesses came up and blockbuster owners cant stop the competitive business to close.

Reflection

I can’t believe such a big company is having such problems. I remember how many people were happy about the service blockbuster gave about 7 years ago. Now it seems to them that blockbuster has such horrible service. Blockbuster has a big variety of games and movies but there policies aren’t great. Paying 6 dollars for a one day late fee is outrageous! This multi-million dollar company is having problems witch should be given because if you do something bad you get hit back. All those unnecessary late fees, I don’t understand how someone renting a movie is going to return it early the next morning. My purpose of renting a movie is to have a really late night and wake up at noon the next day, not at 10 in the morning.
